I don't know about prenatally, but I found that the baby can latch more easily when you pinch your fingers under the inverted nipple to keep it out long enough for latching.  After baby latches, you might want to slide your fingers to the side into a tea cup hold until you see effective suckling.  I did this with a mother whose nipples looked as though they had turned inside out, and the baby latched on.

Subject: inverted nipples prenatal ideas

I have a mom who has inverted nipples that evert with pumping and with the use of the nipple shield. I did not know the mom for the birth of the first child. She did not have consistent help during the first 6 weeks of his life, and even with follow up through 4 months, the mom was only able to latch the infant for one full feeding. However, she exclusively pumped for her first child up to about a year old! (Thanks to WIC and their pump!)  In any case, she is pregnant again, this time with twins, naturally conceived. Does anyone have any prenatal suggestions for getting the breast/nipple ready without stimulation for feeding the babies? After birth besides the nipple shield and a nipple everter does anyone have any other ideas for latching babies on inverted nipples? She is an amazingly devoted mom and is truly one of my heroes. My hope is to have a few more tools in my pocket for these babies...and of course to be there for the delivery or at least
during the first few days of life to ensure latch happens.

Thanks
