Basics first: Colostrum is yellowish, creamy, thick looking. Mature milk looks pale and watery in comparison to colostrum, cow's milk or formula. It is supposed to look that way.

I'm a bit unclear on baby's age - 2 1/2 weeks or 2 1/2 months seems more likely??? and has gained 2.5 kilo since birth?? That is an astounding gain if it has been 2 1/2 weeks!. 2.5 kilo since birth would be just about right for 2 1/2 months, maybe a tad on high side. Possibly a little oversupply. But a few days of block feeding as described in the International Breastfeeding Journal article should fix that, tamp down supply a bit. However, the color/appearance of her milk won't change. Oversupply indicated large Volume, not Quality of milk.

Anyway a baby doesn't continue to gain as rapidly as the months go by, as baby did initially in first month or so. If they kept gaining at the early rate they would be enormous by a year.

I hope you can help mom sort this out and understand what is going on. Pat in SNJ
