I am currently taking care of a Mom who is nursing her 6 week old daughter.
Baby and Mom having been doing fine up until yesterday. She came to see me
on her routine visit-baby gaining beautifully. Mom also nursed her first
child for 18 months. Mom had concerns of baby spitting up (not projectile)
after feeds, which have become more frequent in the past few days. Baby
cranky after feeds and has had a stuffy nose past week or so with no other
signs of illness. I also noted a rash on the baby's face, scalp back and
chest. It is a fine red rash, which also feels rough. This was not infantile
acne for sure. Mom stated no change in laundry detergent, softner sheets, or
soaps of any kind. Also Mom had no change in diet, no new meds. etc. I
suggested she be seen by her Pediatrician (one of which the 5 docs I work
for) The pediatrician said the rash looked like eczema or seborrhea and RX"d
a cream. Also ordered Axid for possible reflux. Mom was asked by the peds.
If she were eating any nuts, and Mom replied no, just peanut butter. The
peds told her she should not eat peanut butter while nursing (even though
she has been eating it while nursing her other child also) What do you tell
your Mom's about peanut butter? Did I miss something here?? I know about the
whole thing with peanut allergies and so on. What are your thoughts on this.
