Briefly back from a period of nomail, my dear friends, and chiming in here. It's ever so nice for Medela to warn against breast pump sharing, because they will probably sell more new ones that way, but isn't the contamination as bad and unhealthy for the original user and her child? I think we should warn mothers to not use any breastpump that will possibly or even probably contain mold after using it for a certain amunt of times. Maybe we should be promoting milkexpression by hand more? Safe, adequate and no dependance upon any money making company.

Warmly,

Gonneke, IBCLC in PP, LC lecturer in southern Netherlands

Jody,

Isn't Medela telling you exactly what you are already finding to be true?  The Pump-in-Style is not safe to share, even after replacing the kit.  In my opinion, it is a bad design, but Medela is not lying about its lack of safety-to-share.

I've seen that bright pink label.  It's too bad that moms don't believe it.  I've had women tell me that their doctor has said it's really OK to use their friend's pump.
