Nikki,
You hit the nail on the head. I was not in the lactation field when
the kids were bitty. We did not consider co-sleeping with the youngest
until she was 9 or 10 months old, and it was purely out of desperation
that we tried it. What wound up working best was about 3 months of
Baby co-sleeping with Daddy and Mama sleeping on the couch. I figured
a kid who had chub on top of her chub would be fine NOT suckling all
night long...some moms can sleep through this and some can't and I was
a Can't...DH spoke several times about how much he loved rolling over
in the night and seeing her sweet little face. She was a little pack
animal and did much better in our bed.

I encourage parents to do whatever works best for their family, and to
try different things to make those night feeds easier, even if it may
seem "unconventional" to them.
