Christine, the mother absolutely should not pump, especially if she is on
bedrest for possible abruption or bleeding, etc. This could throw her into
labor, and it's too early.  She should of course, not have sex either.  Some
mothers leak a lot, in my experience, but they do not experience
Lactogenesis 2 until the placenta is entirely separated.  This is what I
learned, in any case.  Her milk will come in as it should after the placenta
separates and she is holding her baby.
