regarding pump suction levels Winnie writes;
>>Most moms find their comfort level
around the mid-point or a little higher.<<
Very true but most often milk doesn't squirt until the 3/4 point or higher.
This is why I encourage them to start out low but continually "inch" that
lever up as their nipple stretches out. Most will tell me that they can reach
max pain free after a few days of doing it slowly.
Regarding nipple soreness in general, I was very sore with latch intitially
with all 3 of mine, to the the point of tears streaming down my face and with
the 3rd, I was an LC! Positioning appeared to be great but the NP in my
pedi's office suggested that I change the babys position slightly. She didn't
see me nurse but told me when I thought the baby was positioned well, raise
him up a fraction of an inch. Now this *seemed* to help but then again maybe
it was the time they would have improved anyway. Has anyone else heard this
before?
