however, it sounds like you are describing what I consider to be a normal
baby, unless proven otherwise, maybe some would consider a "high needs"
baby. Wanting to be bf every 2 hrs around the clock and held by mom sounds
right to me. You sound like you see it this way too, and I know this
scenario, which can be exasperating. Of course, we often have to meet (i.e.
accept) the mom where she is.
You asked how I would respond in such a situation. I would NOT SUGGEST NOR
IN ANY WAY ENDORSE the pacifier use or other fdg extending type practices. I
would gently encourage the mom to "go with" the baby, I would continue to
point out what I consider to be normal baby behavior and good bf practices.
I would give the reasons. If she decides to use the pacifier, give
supplementary bottles, or to put him on a schedule, it would not be at my
suggestion. I would not be rude or condescending, however I would not give
it my endorsement.
