I've done classes for nurses and now work as a staff nurse (as well as LC
and perinatal ed)...and I'm currently taking a graduate research course (oh
yeah...the research project I'm working on is about...breastfeeding!).
Anyway, as I've been doing my lit review I've been very impressed by the
fact that us lactnetters are very bought-into "the latest" -- evidence-based
practice.
I can't tell you how many times someone at work says, "how do You know?"
about almost any baby-friendly practice. And the truth is, we know because
we are basing these actions on solid research.
So if I were doing a nurse inservice on basics, I would go to the Riordan
and Auerbach latest edition (yes, buy it, it's that much more impressive and
up-to-date) and i would get those references and give them to those nurses
and say "THIRTY YEARS OF EVIDENCE SAYS IT ALL BABY!" and yes I am shouting
and now I'll take a deep breath and get off the soapbox.

With love from beautiful Southern VT------Dawn Kersula with lotsa initials
and lotsa enthusiasm again!

PS A breastfeeding buddy and I are going to a breastfeeding art show in
Williamstown MA on Tuesday Nov 3 if anyone wants to join us -- at the Clark
Art Institute, free on Tuesdays! It's our present to ourselves for our hard
work on Breastfeeding Week
