>James Smibert had a graph showing the parallel increase in bf and growth of
NMAA, that he used in his lectures to med students.<

Just thought I would state the obvious: the two curves may parallel each
other because they are *both* responding to (a)nother factor(s).

For some years Mike Woolridge showed a slide when he spoke which showed that
the decline (1960's) and rise (from 1970) of breastfeeding initiation rates
in the UK (I think it was UK, could have been England) paralleled the
decline and rise of consumption of brown bread. His point -- that maybe the
increase in bf was to do with general societal factors: interest in health
and feeling of personal responsibility for own health, back to nature,
sophisticated marketing of different ideas/products to different classes,
etc., write your own script here, just as the swing to and from white bread
was.
