Hi Ya'll
Again I admit there was probably some misunderstanding on my part at the
1st post about nursing in public. But my first response, I feel is still
valid. No I do not think Nursing in public is wrong or out of place. My
description of "modesty & in good taste" could apply to just about anything
we do in public. I personally do not wear micro-mini skirts, bra-less tube
tops, thong bathing suits, (and the list could go on) at all let alone in
public. Good taste is good taste. This is not a put down to others who
choose to dress in this manner. I'm not suggesting to "hide" a nursing
baby, just nurse in good taste. But then maybe I am from the "Old southern
school of learning" and this concept may have seen it's better days.

Sorry if this was offensive to the group, just my opinion. I often find,
when working with mom, that by reassuring a her that she "can nurse in
public with out embarrassing herself" she will at least give breastfeeding a
try. All to many times I hear "I have too much to do to take the baby with
me and have to nurse in public" or I am just to embarrassed or shy", I'll
nurse at home but not in public". And this occurs with young and older
moms.

Maybe I am just touchy this week. I have the knowledge, credentials, and
heart to help mom's in my hospital (NICU) and am hog-tied from doing so
unless they are my assigned patient. I am an acting RN in the unit and not
hired in the LC status. The hospital already has someone in that job
description, and I will leave it at that. I see so much that needs to be
changed, taught, improved upon especially with the Preemies. But because I
am not hired in the designated capacity of IBCLC I am EXTREMELY limited in
what I can do. I am starting to consider looking for another job where I
can put my knowledge and desire into practice. It is hard because I love my
"it-bity babies" and their need is so great. Also the pickings are real
slim. Just something else that the South is a little slow in changing in.
Guess I just needed to vent little too.

To all of us who have had off days-weeks or months, Thank you for
listening. No offence meant to any of my fellow caretakers of moms and
babies.

<Yes, some women may take delight in showing as much breast as possible
while nursing for their own "shock effect", but I think these are
definitely in the minority. The terms "discrete", "good taste" and
"modesty", in my opinion, can carry the implication that there's still
something primarily sexual or "naughty" about nursing breasts. >
