Whenever a mom mentions pumping a bottle of her milk to use in a public
situation, I like to remind them that when baby is fed a bottle she will need
to pump at around the same time for comfort and supply reasons. I go on to
suggest that it is almost always easier to find a "comfortable" place to
nurse than it is to find a "comfortable" place to pump (I don't define
"comfortable" unless they ask). It seems that most of these women have
forgotten that they will need to pump then; they frequently go on to ask
about ways to manage NIP at their comfort level. Has anyone else found this
reminder useful?
Flossie Rollhauser, IBCLC
