Hello Wise Ones,I have been following this discussion with interest, hoping that it would eventually get to Jack Newman's (and apparently other's) practice of using glucose water as an extender for colostrum in the first 72 hrs or so.We don't stock any glucose water on the ward in our small hospital. I have used sterile water as an extender, my intuition as the only rationale for using a ratio of 1:1, eg. 2 mL colostrum to 2 mL sterile water.Kathy Demchuk mentions that she uses, I think, plain sterile water as per her discussion with Marsha Walker.Any opinions on what might be a better colostrum "extender" - sterile water or colostrum? Reasons and rationale why?Thank you in advance,Tina RevaiLLLL, BScN, IBCLCPort Alberni, Canada
