Not wanting to beat this topic to death ( but maybe):

What is Humphries # 5 gripe water?

Wanted to add that the gripe water I described is now 8 years old, smuggled in
from Canada, and no, I didn't give it to my daughter though I wish I had dosed
myself with it -probably would have helped her with "colic" .

A note about tinctures: they are often made with 90-95% alcohol, but only a
relatively small proportion of the final volume of the tincture may be
alcohol. For example the gripe water I have is made with 90% alcohol, 0.246
ml/5 ml, making the final volume 4.92% alcohol. Other tinctures commonly have
a higher percent alcohol content , e.g. vanilla extract 8.25%, or Echinacea
tincture 44-50%. (looking at stuff I have around the house)

Some have described a typical dose (25-35 gtts) of this last tincture as
containing about as much alcohol as a ripe banana and not a reason for concern
for a nursing mother to use ( unless avoiding alcohol for other reasons) -
would be different picture if given to a baby, yes?
