Donna,

It sounds to me as if this mum doesn't have thrush at all, but
cycle-related nipple sensitivity, which is what I get. It happens 14
days before my period starts (at ovulation), and lasts about 12-13
days. It also causes me to have irregular periods (hyperstimulation
--> delayed ovulation), but I can always tell when my period will
arrive, by counting 2 weeks from the start of the pain.

I've been talking with several other mums who have this, and one of
the things that's come up is calcium deficiency (our bodies need more
calcium in the latter half of the menstrual cycle). I have also
found that a warm cloth to relax the tissue before feeding helps.
Other than that, I have no suggestions, except that for me, the
ability this gives me to track ovulation does make up for the
discomfort (plus, knowing that it's not an infection somehow makes it
less painful).
