Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that my friend Karen Evon talked to someone at
Avent the other day and was told that the FDA had approved use of the
Nipplette(sp?) in the US about 1 1/2 weeks ago. However, it is approved for
1st and 2nd trimesters and postpartum ONLY. Not 3rd trimester (for obvious
reasons). For more info you can call Avent at their 800 #. Unfortunately,
tho I have the # here somewhere, my 13 mo old got into my files one eve while
I was at the store and everything is a mess! If someone else out there has
it and would like to post it, that would be great, since I'll be quite busy
this next couple of weeks taking the CLE training! :)

Just a couple of questions for y'all. I keep reading about, and talking to,
patients who have BF babes who are seemingly gaining weight, but not as fast
as their Dr.s want, who are being put on ABM supplements to increase the
weight gain. I am seeing that the moms are fine with the weight gain of the
baby, the LC's are fine with the weight gain, no-one wants to put the baby on
ABM supplements, but they do it anyway. WHY? The baby belongs to the Mom,
not the Dr., and if the baby is gaining weight why force the ABM? Don't
babies gain at their own paces? My first son gained weight VERY slowly, but
he gained. He was fine. My second son gained weight like crazy, and he's
fine. Both were totally BF. I guess what I'm asking is, if the mom doesn't
want to give the baby formula, why does she? Why not BF more often if the
Dr. is so concerned? What can the Dr. do or say if the mom refuses to give
the baby ABM? (as long as the baby is gaining)
Just asking because I'm puzzled about this!

TIA!

Jay
