Iowa has a special mention in the state code excusing breastfeeding mothers
from jury duty if they are the sole caretaker of the child. In other words a
mom that breastfeeds and takes the child to day care could not use BF as an
excuse from jury duty. I would tell the mom to take the child to the court
room and nurse. Neither lawyer or the judge would want that "distraction" in
the court room and she should have no problem getting dismissed. If needed
she could ask her doctor for a note, though she should have to. She also runs
a small risk of the parties at hand judge, doctor and so on making a stink
cuz they think 2 is too old to nurse. Iam sure you have heard of mothers
reported for child abuse cuz somebody thought their child was too old to
nurse and this was a form of sexual abuse. I am not kidding.

If you wan a copy of the Iowa Law let me know and I'll try to dig it out for
you or call
