All:

I tweeted a mom who is a breastfeeding advocate and has Marfans. She

said the following:

marfan will not affect breastfeeding at all. it has nothing to do with

milk. :-) feel free to give them my email if they want to talk to a

marf who breastfed: marfmom at gmail dot com. oh i should also add

there is no research to show that beta blockers will affect supply so

she should be good there as well. if she's taking a different med i'd

be happy to try to find out whether that might affect supply.

Hope this helps!

Subject: Expert writes that International Code has failed....

Dear Friends:

The Code has never been taken seriously by any major country, is a big

secret in the US, and has no enforcing power. Seems kinda unfair to accuse

it of being a failure when industry rides roughshod over the world's

infants.

A bit late but just wanted to add in that vitex helped me immensely when this happened to me. Walking was extremely painful - as was wearing pants! I was nursing my youngest and starting perimenopause. The Astroglide worked 10 x better than KY and while it seemed to be the last thing to do, sex did help. The astroglide had to be reapplied often (my dh would say my body was soaking it up) and since we don't use condoms it actually helped the next day (there was some moisture to make walking easier). Years ago one lubricant company did sell some applicators to apply the lubricant during the day for this type of dryness, but it was short lived on the market. Maybe just finding a way of applying it may help with daily activities. Once the vitex kicked in my days were more comfortable - since it balances hormones it didn't drop my supply.

On a side note it gave my friend a big laugh when we were discussing menopause when I said that vaginal lubrication is important for so many things you don't think about - like walking, driving and wearing pants. We are finding ways to enjoy old age as it comes!

 Abstract

Growth assessment of children requires comparison of growth measurements

with normative references, usually in the form of growth charts.

Traditionally growth charts (growth references) have described the growth of

children who were considered normal and were living in a defined geographic

area. The new WHO growth charts, on the other hand, are growth standards

that aim to represent growth as it occurs worldwide. Moreover, they

represent growth as it occurs under optimal circumstances and is thought to

be conducive to optimal long-term health. Most growth references are

single-country references, exemplified here by charts from the UK, the

Netherlands and the USA. By contrast, the Euro-Growth reference and the WHO

standard are based on multinational samples. Comparison of these five charts

reveals surprisingly large differences that are for the most part

unexplained. Differences between the WHO charts and other charts are only

partially explained by the use of a prescriptive approach and by the data

truncation employed. The large differences between charts probably are of

merely trivial consequence when charts are used in monitoring individual

children. When charts are used in health assessment of groups of children,

the impact of the differences, however, is substantial. Copyright (c) 2010

Hi Lynda,

Sorry to post to the whole list, but the digest version does not show the

email address of the poster. (Or I just don't know how to retrieve it.)

Please feel free to use these terms. The word "breastaurant" came up when a

doula client of mine from several years ago, told me she wanted to design

a tee shirt for her baby which said "I eat at Mom's." We started

brainstorming and I thought that somehow she could include the word "breastaurant",

as in "I eat at Mom's Breastaurant." Don't know if she ever followed through

with the shirt design.
