There is no good evidence (in spite of persistent cultural myth) that
withholding food shortens the course of diarrhea.  Since the mom has a dx of
c. diff. the meds should soon have her improving.  In the meantime, the
ritual starvation is prob. making her energy level worse.  I'd tell her to
eat more, rest more, and try to remember that formula will stress the baby's
gut.  Baby needs protection now, too.
