Here is a nipple skin tag story. In August of 1997, on only the
second day after our hospital-based LC program began, I was on duty and
had a shy teen mom with a long nipple skin tag, thin, about 2 cm long,
with a plump raisin/small grape sized ball on the end of the tag. This
poor mom was so quiet and shy, from Nigeria or Ethiopia, and I did a
nipple and breast exam as part of my job. Glad I did! And it also
proved our necessity for existence. I saw this particular tag as a
possible choking hazard for the baby. I notified the Midwife, who took a
good look at it also, and she notified the staff OB doc on, who gave a
local and tied off the tag with sutures. It was very tough tissue once
she started to cut it off (below the tie) and probably would not have
come off with the baby nursing.....but may have with an older toddler
nursing.
