Nikki asks,
<<Please help me to understand this correctly. Teaching and helping
mothers to achieve correct latch was rejected for this study because it was
perceived as not alleviating nipple pain??? Whereas giving mothers products
was the
ethical choice??
     Am I reading this correctly??>>

No, I think all were taught how to achieve correct latch -- what was
"unethical" was using a group of mothers who were JUST taught correct positioning &
latch and not giving them either the lanolin or the hydrogels. So there was no
"control group" of mothers that didn't receive one or the other intervention.
