Just wanted to share an interesting story . I assisted mom with the
delivery of her 4 th child last evening (Im a L and D nurse as well as
IBCLC) and after delivery she asked me , do you mind if I nurse the baby
now, of course I was smiling but the other nurse in the room started
giggling and said "You forgot who your asking that question to" and the
mom started giggling too! So we put the babe to breast and she nursed a
little, then mom preceded to tell me that with her first child that was
born at a large hospital in Washington DC and that she was rather
nervous about feeding the baby and the baby didn't nurse well, the LC
saw her at day 4 and apparently did a digital suck exam and told mom the
babes suck was all mixed up and that mom would have to feed baby with an
eye dropper till they could retrain the baby to suck, after mom went
home, this same day, the moms friend came for a visit , and she was
currently nursing a 9 week old her self, she put the new babe to her
breast and babe nursed wonderfully , and she gave baby back to momma and
momma reports that she never had any more trouble at all with the baby
nursing again and she nursed her into toddler hood! Mom states that she
was just too nervous and didn't know how to nurse babe till someone else
did it for her first.I found this very interesting. The LC mentioned
here is on this list......... :-) Wonder is she can figure out who she
is? She no longer works at the mentioned hospital .
