As Magda indicated, this blanket advice of 'one side only' causes
problems in the UK, too.

I have another gripe with another bit of misinterpretation.

I had a call from a mother who had been told 'feed on one side until
it is empty and then offer the other side'.

Well, of course the breast is rarely actually empty....but the mother
kept squeezing the nipple to 'see' if the breast still had milk...and
of course it did. So instead of watching the baby for signs he would
be happy enough to take the other side, she was forever taking him
off and squeezing to see if it was 'time' to switch him, and trying
to put him on again to try to empty it. This made feeds very
unrelaxed and frustrating for the baby and the mother.

There wasn't a weight issue with the baby, fortunately, but it wasn't
a very rewarding relationship.

It was a revelation to her that she was 'allowed' to put the baby on
the second side when she and the baby felt like it !!
