I have heard that while the latest machines are great for testing
*hyperglycaemia* (essential, as David says, to people with diabetes) there
have been doubts about their accuracy at the other end of the scale ie
hypoglycaemia. I'm not a doctor, and I am only reporting what I have
heard...so I may be totally wrong here!

More to the point, I think, is that there are differences of opinion about
what is *normal* blood sugar in newborns - so if no one knows for certain
what they're looking for, how do they know when to be concerned???
