If the milk can't get out on the damaged side, the breast will engorge and 
then involute. Cold  Cabbage leaves may be a big help.  I had a mom once who 
had abcess surgery on the lower part of her left breast, that half of the 
breast would fill and then involute.  the top half still seemed to make 
milk, so she nursed the next 3 babies with 1 1/2 breasts and also became a 
LLL leader :-)  Pat in SNJ
