How about 'full tenure nursing' or 'full term nursing'?
I'm glad to see this discussion about nursing young children and ashamed
for my own reluctance to acknowledge that I nursed my son until he was
done! (5yr 10mos). He's 19 now and I just asked him if it was alright that
I spoke of it publicly. He asked me where and then said it really didn't
matter to him.

Some years ago when he started attending public school after having
attended a small alternative school, the psychologist interviewing me asked
how long I nursed him and I told her almost six years. She sputtered to
clarify the years instead of the months. My ready retort has always been,
psychologists' 'modern ideas' haven't proved they know much about raising
children, family life or creating a common value for it as a priority over
supporting power & profit mongers. I was later embarrassed by another
school psychologist who (proving his basic lack of respect for
confidentiality) announced this fact at a meeting about my son. I didn't
flinch, assuming people would think he meant 6 months. (Why sould I be so
Sensitive). As I said, I nursed mu son until he was done.

My son was four years old before the American Pediatric organization
acknowldeged that mother's milk was best and that technology's products a
far second. THAT to me is our true legacy, the need to put technology in
it's place and to appreciate the true accoutrements of a real civilization.

Now I post this with the thought that those of us who have established a
track record (I hesitate boasting about mine because the jury is still out,
he is after all only 19, though wonderfully confident and accomplished,
especially in sports.), we should share our experiences and help those
coming along to be brave. Perhaps even more, we need to add to the record
and enhance the perspective. I believe that all this constraint of nature
as opposed to stewardship contributes to mass dementia!

Thanks for the space to offer my $.02, I'll now retreat to lurking. You
folks are wonderful.

PS. I'm still distressed by the "Child Welfare" workers I see who struggle
to nurture their own children, constrained by a system that doesn't support
their nurturing their OWN children.
