Hello
I want to mention another approach, made by a Spanish Pediatrician. He had
contact with a mother whose baby was very allergic. She was advised to stop
breastfeeding and start giving hydrolyzed formula to the baby instead. The
pediatrician suggested the mother should take the hydrolyzed formula
herself, and see what happens. Surprisingly, the baby was much better, when
the mother ate the hydrolyzed formula instead of other foods. She then began
introducing foods gradually to see the reactions. This experiment is
mentioned by this Spanish pediatrician (Carlos Gonzalez) in two of his
books.

I am really pleased to see Dieticians on Lactnet, too. I often refer
mothers to Dieticians and wonder what kind of reception they will get.
Rebecca mentions RAST testing, which identifies 'true' allergic resposes -
ie those that are IgE mediated. I have been looking into 'idosyncratic'
reactions - those mediated through other pathways, specifically, IgG
mediated responses. I would be interested to hear what the dieticians (and
others) know about these.
