    DHHS has a toll-free number. (877  696 6775). After only about 3 minutes
on hold, I got to speak with a staff member of Secretary Thompson's office. I
said that I was a mother, a citizen, and a nurse; that I was very concerned
about the formula industry having any impact or influence on the Breastfeeding
Promotion Ad Campaign.
    I said that breastfeeding was like wearing a seatbelt; neither practice
was a guarantee of a totally healthy long life, but that the odds of that long
healthy life were immensely increased if those practices were performed. I
said that allowing the formula industry to have any impact on breastfeeding
promotion was like letting a fox guard the henhouse. I said that the formula
industry was acting like the tobacco industry that withheld and supressed the truth
for decades. I said that consumers have a right to true informed choice.
    She said that she would pass my message on.
    Toll-free telephone call..............what does anyone who wants to call
have to loose? Our babies have all to gain.
