This reminded me of my daughter. She also went days between bowel movements
(not constipation - just the normal save it up type of baby, they were soft
and large). But she also had a slight allergy problems. My dh is highly
allergic to peanuts and other nuts - my mil once made a comment about the
peanut allergy was a strange one because peanuts are really legume/lentil
type of food not a "real" nut and if other lentils/legumes bothered him.
Well once my daughter started solids (at 8 months - refused to have anything
that was "food" in her mouth until then, but lint she would suck on for
hours) she started with real constipation. When she had peas she would
become very constipated - even if I had pea soup when she was nursing. This
was true constipation - I used cloth diapers and it was very hard and dry,
the diapers where still clean when I shook the stool into the toilet.

I would also ask the mom what allergies she and the father have - and see if
she is eating any related food. (Once you check for true constipation and
not just infrequent stools.)
