One way to assess for this problem is to shine a flashlight or other light
source at the baby's eyes at the same time. The little white reflection
should be in the same place on both eyes at the same time (IE: both should
appear on the top center of the pupil if one of them does) If it is ever so
slightly off from one eye to the other, that is an indicator that the child
should be referred to a physician who deals with these things. The earlier
the better. This is a routine assessment done by most pediatricians as part
of a general physical/eye exam, and it is done in schools (In Texas it is
anyway - I don't know about other states) Just an interesting FYI for people
who deal with infants on a routine basis.
