I may have insulted the Lousiana dept of health but I sent them a direct
e-mail with a few sentences expressing my concern for the vulnerability of
formula fed babies, and the link to the WHO guide for mothers on BF in
emergencies. Seemed easy enough to do, and from where I sit there isn't
much else I can do, except to keep the people of the Gulf Coast in my
thoughts.

Listmother Karen Zeretzke is from New Orleans. She is safe, as is her
family. She has a family member who works in the pediatric ICU at Tulane.
The situation is not simple, to put it mildly. It is atrocious. Don't know
what has happened to the fragile babies in that ICU but they were in a
critical situation a couple of days ago.

My thoughts are with those tens of thousands of people who were told to
evacuate, but not provided with transportation to do so. That some of them
are behaving in ways unworthy of a civilized society is no more appalling
than the way that society has behaved toward them.
