Hello. I am a breastfeeding volunteer who lurks occasionally and posts
infrequently but thoroughly enjoys all LACTNET discussions!

A mother has come to me looking for information on "moms with weakened
immune systems nursing." She was just diagnosed with Epstein-Barr Virus
and Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome and her doctor says that her body is too weak to keep
nursing and that she must wean.

The baby is 21 months and not weaning easily - she says that they are
"trying to cut down." The mother just wrote an article on the benefits of
nursing a toddler so she isn't exactly on the fence on this issue.

I can't find anything in archives on toddler nursing and these conditions,
just a bit on very young babies from a few years ago. My gut reaction is
that the weaning will cause less rest than just nursing but there may be
other factors to consider regarding these conditions.

I have the mother's permission to post. Please let me know if you have any
resources, information, experience or opinion on the matter. Thank you in
advance!
Katrina Fox
