Tricia I think if the mother's milk supply went down I would not expect it
would be so dramatic at tgat point and with a very good weight gain in the
beginning. and I would also expect the baby would protest and be asking for
more and more milk. Seems that this baby is self-limiting his intake I'm
not sure if it has something to do with the father something genetic
possibly. But I would definitely want some type of further work up because
it seems that the baby is being offered food but he is not really taking it
so maybe something is going on the GI tract? Metabolic? Other thoughts
would be an aversion to possibly an oversupply or strong let down in the
beginning. Also has there been any type of sleep training or something like
that? I would recommend small frequent feedings all day all night no
pacifier other than SIDS prevention type recommendations and mother
protecting her milk supply as best as she can. Take home message I feel the
baby needs a thorough evaluation.
