Referring to Rachel`s reply, I had no intention of suggesting that women
were more power-hungry or bickered more than men. On the contrary,
I just am naive enough to still believe that women who are skilled at
multi-tasking, of smoothing over conflicts within the family, would be more
flexible in organizational work. Maybe it`s a question of organizations
growing so fast that people do not feel any personal responsibility. In the
first years of the ICEC we were one happy family, maybe because we had an
enormous challenge in front of us. Our committee meetings and conferences
were like parties and it was fantastic to see so many different ethnic
groups and religious dominations greeting each other with respect and
cordiality. But perhaps if we had not grown to the point that nobody is
prepared to commit themselves to take positions of responsibility, we would
not have been so effective in the birth-place.
May we all live in peace.
