Our son was 3 yrs 3 weeks when Diagnosed with IDDM.   Although the
hospital and Endocrinology staff originally fought us on the issue of his
continued nursing,  they did comment that breastfeeding had prevented
him from developing this disease sooner.

He refused all supplementation and any foods until after age 15 months.
Due to dairy allergies in family,  we held off on cows milk until well after
age 2 1/2.

They mentioned the little babies diagnosed with IDDM are almost totally
the ones that are formula fed from birth.

And IDDM is extremely costly, not to mention a hard condition to deal
with children having.
