I totally agree that the semi-reclining position is a great tool for
attachment and works.  However I believe we must assess what is working and
then assist women so they can breastfeed during everyday activities.
Breastfeeding has to feel normal.

I would therefore like to add that I believe it is the FIRM CONTACT of the
baby to the mother's body, close contact of the baby's mouth with the
breast/nipple and the baby's head being free enough to 'focus', bob or
centre that is most likely the key to the success of being in a semi
reclined position and all these aspects can be reproduced by most women and
their babies who are seated normally.  

I would like to emphasise I am not putting down Suzanne Colson's work at all
because I think it is wonderful and if we can keep mothers and babies
together and let them work it out that of course is ideal.
