I had the same "problem" with my last child (now 8). I did not give her a
bottle before 3 months (which I knoew was probably waiting too long). My
reasoning was- my second child (now 18), was not the greatest about getting
well established at latch (was very impatient), I had to return to work at
6-7 weeks after birth. I did not give her any bottles until the day I went
back to work ........she refused to latch on after that day. What made this
even more difficult----I had just completed the CLC course at UCLA. Now I was
a CLC and couldn't get my baby to latch on. I pumped and fed her my milk
until 4 month. I became a "closet bottle-feeder" (what my peers say, what
would my patients think). However, she did teach me a lot.
Well back to the 8 year old. I started trying her with a bottle about 3
months---- absolutely refused no matter who tried. So when I went back to
work at 4 months, I took her to the babysitter with cup, spoon, eye dropper
and bottle. It took 2 days and she began to take the bottle great------ but
only from the babysitter. We weaned at about 4+ years of age. Be patient,
especially if she took it before, she may give in and do it again. My
suggestions is to use it as a play toy for a bit, with no pressure for her to
eat............
