While I was only provided with 6 months of maternity leave to enjoy my
daughter, mothers in Canada, as of 2001, now have one year of job security
to stay home and be with their families. I decided to quit my job to stay
home and continue to nurse (now 22 months later). The financial situation
of families in Canada does not usually enable families to live off of one
income and indeed the government is not being seen as doing enough to
support us in the raising of our future.

I am left here to wish that I were living in Czechosovakia where women are
given 3 years of maternity leave and when one does return to work, if they
choose, they can rest assured that their children are being watched after by
none other than the very best. Daycare workers must be, by law, RNs with a
high concentration of studies in the field of Pediatrics. Dear God .... if
only the rest of the world would catch on!
