Annette writes: The ingredients are: petrolatum, caprylic/capric,
triglyceride, canola oil,
silica, corn starch, c18-36 acid, glycol ester, butyrospermom parkii (shea)
butter, stearyl alcohol, c18-36 acid triglycerides, magifera indica (mango)
seed
butter, retinyl palmitate, tocopherol, triticum vulgare, wheat germ oil.

One of our NICU moms just pulled this out of her bag and started to apply it
while I was with her. Since I had never seen it before I asked her if I could
look at it and, lo and behold, I came across the above list of ingredients. I
told her to throw it out but I feel I should get more info about this stuff.
The list of ingredients is daunting. Is it OK to just put a bunch of stuff in a
cream and then market it to breastfeeding mothers? Tocopherol, I believe, is
vit e and can be dangerous for premies. Who knows if the other ingredients
are safe for ingestion. And who determines if a cream such as this is safe? I
will send an e mail to Gerber and ask them how they have guaranteed its safety
for infants. Any other ideas on how to deal with this? Any thoughts Dr. Hale?
who by the way I had the pleasure of meeting at Stanford this morning, but
forgot to ask him about this.
