I have just finished reading Breastfeeding Special Care Babies, by Sandra
Lang, (very good by the way). I read about an antibiotic called
Lactofelicine which is from Japan, developed from human colostrol proteins,
which claims to be strong enough to kill the bacteria causing food poisoning
within one hour. Beneficial gut bacteria are left unharmed by the substance
which is active against e coli, listeria and other bacteria causing
diarrhea. I have never heard of this. Has anyone heard of this?

When a mom calls wondering if she should continue breastfeeding because she
has food poisoning, should we maybe encourage her to drink a little of her
own milk? Just a thought................. I have had many calls about
this, and always encouraged her to keep taking fluids and to keep nursing,
but never thought about having her ingest some of her own milk. What do
you think?
