Wendy's announcement reminded me that I had not yet shared this news
with my friends on Lactnet.

Our 6th grandchild (second girl!) arrived at 3.03pm on Sunday July 11th, 2010.
Rachel Lucia (Rachel Shulamit) was born at home, a waterbirth, after
a three hour labour and very easy birth, with the help of midwife
Michele Doyle. It was a privilege to be present at this wonderful
event.
3yr old Jonah was thrilled with his new baby sister.
Rachel is nursing beautifully and her mama is radiant.

Now for the interesting bit :)

Rachel was 7lbs 12oz at birth.
The next day, at the doctor's office, she had lost a whole pound (now
6lb 12oz). The doctor (an IBCLC!) was puzzled, but got the same weight
on a different scale, and said the baby looked fine and not to worry,
but have the midwife check her again .
The following day when the midwife called, Rachel had gained an ounce
(now 6lb 13oz) and has continued to gain steadily ever since, over an
ounce a day.
So, where did that pound go? She definitely lost it - you can see from
the photos. In the first 24 hours she had 1 pee and three tarry poops,
but, not a whole pound's worth!
