I have to agree with Dr. Jack on this one, at least in my experience. 
Perhaps Hispanics, like Orientals, tend to have more jaundice (and I mean
the later-blooming, non-dangerous kind), but all three my kids were at some
time or another pumpkins (running true to form that it tends to run in
families).  

However, I used the theory that if they were breastfeeding often, were
awake and alert a good portion of the day (were they ever) and were pooping
regularly (ditto) then this was normal, physiologic jaundice and didn´t
require treatment.  Luckily I had Philipino Pediatricians who felt the same
way. 

Still wonder why we need to do all these treatments if there is no DISEASE
associated with it, and we may consider that Mother/Father Nature perhaps
has a reason for it...

Many moms come to see me in our weekly support group with babies who look
yellow - and as long as I get the 3 questions answered in the affirmative
(eats, poops, is active),  I don´t worry...  But I do make sure she knows
to call if there are any behavioral changes.
