Why not have the mother recline substantially and comfortably, allow the baby to self-attach and take what he wants? As long as he is not clamping down on the nipple and obstructing the ducts, he should do fine. Review Donna Geddes videos on the Science of Sucking put out by Medela the despicable code violator. It REALLY matters! And Donna's research validates Susan Colson's observations!

Subject: Very Long nipples

I have a post partum mom 2 days out, attempting to breast feed but her nipples are very long, probably the length of a thumb,I'm guessing. The baby is trying but gags or pulls back only wanting to take in the end of the nipple. Any suggestions? I am afraid that the baby will be unable to take as much tissue as needed and cause discomfort for mom, pus not get the volume needed.
