The 2010 BAMS has excellent charts, all based on the breastfed infant as the norm and taking into account cultural variations as well.  I believe you can also find them on the WHO website, but I haven't looked lately.

Just have him check the "Breastfeeding handbook for physician", by the AAP and ACOG, 2006. In chapter 8 there is a table 8-II that reports baby girls and boys daily weight gain - actually 30 and 33 g per day in the first month.
