Dear Friends:

The Business Case for Breastfeeding offers a possible solution to the issue
of mothers at work with babies....one option that is offered is for mothers
to bring their babies to work with them. While a policewoman could hardly
do this, a secretary could or a breastfeeding peer counselor. WIC doesn't
want to be seen as discriminatory now, does it?

If liability is an issue, then have the employee sign a release.

As for diabetes, it seems like that thrifty gene is in most of us. Humans
are designed to survive famine, flood, war, and other catastrophe. We could
all survive without food for a long time....not that we want to (especially
chocolate)!! When food is plentiful, our bodies save any extra for the
rough times to come. While aboriginal and native peoples are vulnerable
(perhaps because the changes they go through when exposed to western diets
are very obvious in just a few generations), I believe that all humans are
vulnerable.

One more theory for the increase in diabetes is not feeding related.
Children's increased time indoors is reducing their Vitamin D levels, and
that is linked to increased risk of type 1 diabetes.

All this new vitamin D research has led me to take 1000 IU of Vitamin D a
day. I live at 39+ degrees North latitude.
