Thank you all for your insightful posts that I've forwarded to my friend.
Her daughter was stabilized, off the ventilator, and transferred out of ICU
yesterday morning. Very soon after her condition improved (hours) she went
from producing about 10ml colostrum to engorged and pumping 3 ounces! As
soon as she was out of bed in a recliner, the family brought the baby to
visit, placed her on her chest, and baby crawled to the breast and latched
on and nursed like a pro for the first time at 6 days old!! What a miracle!
There's no stopping them now. They even got a donation of 25 ounces of
donor milk in honor of my friend's over 25 years of helping breastfeeding
mothers. That should be enough, in addition to what they purchased, to get
them through until mom is stronger and up to full production. The baby only
had 20ml of ABM through this whole week of separation, which she promptly
vomited. Don't want to post the IBCLC's name without her permission but she
is known by most on this list and she wants me convey her great appreciation
for the posts and support.
