If it were my baby I would want it to get my milk, tylenol or not. And I
have taken care of many + or - 500 gram babies in my day. However....this
doc may be hard to convince becoz when you are dealing with VLBW babies like
this, there is no way to know what this kid can metabolize i.e. liver and
kidney function. This is a whole 'nother ball game. You are not dealing with
a healthy term neonate; I know you know this but this doc may think you are
equating the two groups.
Doing the math is a good idea, the other choice would be to ask the neo what
med if any would be acceptable for the mother to take (morphine, ibuprofen,
extra strenght regular tylenol?) and see if she can get on it. Also can you
show him the data on NEC and other sepsis in human milk vs artif. milk fed
premies.? What about donor milk for now?
Good luck fighting this battle.
