I have been pondering for some time about how we can get Bill Gates and the
Gates Foundation interested in the issues of lactation.
The Gates Foundation seems to be geared to preventing diseases that we
shoud be able to prevent with technologies already available; things like
figuring out how to stop the spread of malaria. How can we convince them
that one of the ways toward improving the world's health is through getting
everyone breastfeeding?
The Gates FOundation also is involved in AIDS. WOuld they be interested in
the results of the research that infants if HIV positive mothers in developing
contries are less likely to contract AIDS if exclusively breastfed?

What about all of those GOOGLE folks? Do they have a foundation that is
trying to find a direction to spend their gazzillions of dollars? I really think that
we need to work on the phillanthropic organizations to get behind
breastfeeding.

A couple of years ago I did a search on a phillanthropy database looking for
funding for a project. It was nearly impossible to find any sources when
breastfeeding or lactation were used as search criteria. How do we get these
workds to become part of the vocabulary of these organizations?

I believe that this is an angle that we as a profession could explore some more.

Hoping for sources for future research...
