I'm thinking it is corn.  And hominy grits is a ground-up version that
resembles a hot cereal like oatmeal or Cream of Wheat?  That is what I
imagine.  It is not common in the NW US.  there must be someone on this list
who knows!  It doesn't sound too unhealthy to me, but not a good choice for
a baby!
