Hi All,
I kept thinking someone else would post this perspective while my resources
weren't at hand. I haven't seen it so this is what came to my mind thanks
to the 2016 Gold Conference presentation by Kay Hoover:

Oxford Centre for Evidence-based Medicine Levels of Evidence:
*5. Expert Opinion*
4. Case-series
3. Case-controlled studies
2. Retrospective cohort study
1. Randomized controlled study

She also included that when there is no research: 1. experts as a resource;
2. building on the basics; and 3. Learning from our clinical experiences.

This afternoon I was reading/studying (yes, I have to take that darn exam
again!) Core Curriculum of Lactation Consultant Practice and saw this:

"Providing evidence-based care means IBCLCs should be aware of and evaluate
research that affects human lactation. If research does not exist, expert
opinion should guide practice. Where such technical or medical information
does not exist and the IBCLC has clinical experience relevant to the issue
at hand, the mother should be so informed." Chapter 1, p. 14.

For me, I have excellent sources of expert opinion and my clinical
experience supports the use of bodywork in lactation and I will continue to
inform parents so that they may make an informed decision for themselves
and their baby or babies.

Michele
